Made in Cambodia street market

The organisers have a strict policy that every item for sale must be made in Cambodia. Most are also crafted by hand, with nothing mass produced, ensuring that your gifts and souvenirs will be both genuine and one-of-a-kind.

The market has the feel of an eclectic and lighthearted urban farmer's market. Around 30 stalls display products like knitted sugar-banana key rings, extravagant natural seed necklaces, bottles of Sombai infused rice liquor, Cambodian silk scarves, carved rosewood elephants and some some very cool screen-printed T-shirts with London Underground-style maps of the Angkor temples. You'll be supporting local people no matter what you buy, but several social enterprises and NGOs set up stalls that empower artists through the sales of their handmade goods.

Foodies will also enjoy the market's stalls operated by some of Siem Reap's best restaurants. The Sugar Palm serves its world-famous amok while social enterprise/restaurant Green Star, which is a non-profit set up entirely to support local street kids, offers tasty traditional Khmer dishes. There's also a beverage pavilion if you want a cold beer or juice, and performance art to keep things lively. If you're lucky, a def-defying rooftop acrobatic circus will thrill the crowd during your visit.

At time of writing, the market only takes place on the first Saturday of the month, but don't be surprised if it becomes a weekly event in the future.
