The market's greatest attraction is the wet foods section right in the
belly of the beast where you can see (and smell) what an authentic
Cambodian fresh foods market is like.
On the weathered tables of mostly female vendors you'll find fish still
flapping, colourful assortments of fresh fruits, vegetables, spices,
dried chillies and pungent pastes along with Cambodian sweet coconut
milk cold "soups" and local sausages that don't taste like you think
they will.
The crowded and tight market isn't for the claustrophobic (or the
squeamish) but if you enjoy checking out local foods and want to pick up
a cheap t-shirt or souvenir on the way out, the Old Market is worth a
wander.
